Massage therapy during pregnancy is a wonderful healthy way to reduce stress and promote overall wellness. Regular Massage helps relieve many of the normal discomforts experienced during pregnancy like leg cramps, back ache, headaches and oedema (swelling).
In addition, massage for pregnant women reduces stress on weight-bearing joints, encourages blood and lymph circulation, helps to relax nervous tension which aids in better sleep and can help relieve depression or anxiety caused by hormonal changes.
Regular massage not only helps diminish anxiety and discomfort but boosts relaxation as well. This ultimately can lead to improved sleep patterns.
At Urban Retreat, our therapists take extra care to ensure our pregnant clients are comfortable. Sideline positioning with a supportive body pillow is used to allow maximum comfort when massage techniques are applied. It's important to communicate with your Therapist and tell them where you need attention. Let them know right away if anything during the massage – including your positioning – is causing you any discomfort.

Women with normal, low-risk pregnancies can benefit greatly from massage. As a precaution, women with high-risk pregnancies should consult their doctor or midwife before booking a massage.
